Phase Diagram of the System CaF₂—AlF₃

Abstract: The phase diagram of the binary system CaF₂—AIF₃ was investigated by thermal analysis method and by X-ray phase analysis. It was confirmed that the compound CaAlF₅ with incongruent melting point was formed; the peritectic reaction takes place at 893°C, the peritectic point was determined to be at 52.5 mole % CaF₂ and 47.5 mole % AlF₃. The compound CaAlF₆ forms a simple eutectic system with CaF₂; the eutectic point was found at 62.5 mole % CaF₂ and 37.5 mole % AlF₃, the eutectic crystallization at 829-C.
