Physicochemical study of some systems important in the production of aluminum. II. The phase diagram of the system Na3AlF6-CaF2-NaCl

Abstract: cf. CA 54, 21967a. By thermal analysis and by the visual method the system Na3AlF6-CaF2-NaCl was studied. The binary systems Na3AlF6-CaF2 (I), Na3AlF6-NaCl (II), and CaF2-NaCl (III) are simple eutectic systems. The detd. eutectic compn. and temps. of eutectic crystn. were: for I, 50.5 mole % Na3AlF6, 940°; for II, 11.0 mole % Na3AlF6, 737°; and for III, 3.2 mole % CuF2, 780°. According to the phase diagram, Na3AlF6-CaF2-NaCl is a simple eutectic system showing Na3AlF6 11.5, CaF2 1.0, and NaCl 87.5 mole % and crystn. temp. 730°.
