Abstract: cf. CA 58, 5635e. IR absorption spectra of amino and isothiocyanate derivs. of acridine (I) and benzacridine (II) in the area 3600-720 cm-1 are described. With the agreement in literature characteristic absorption waves were detd. in the area of basic and deformation vibrations of NH groups. All I and II except 5-aminoacridine (III) show absorption max. of medium intensity near 1335 cm-1, which corresponds to vibrations of CN groups of primary arom. amines and which proves a different structure of III from the other aminoacridines. All isothiocyanates were definitely identified with a wide absorption max. in the area 2130-2030 cm-1 The derivs., except 1- and 5-aminoacridine, showed near 1570 cm-1 an addnl. absorption max. which corresponds to the vibration of CC and CN in a hereto ring. It was detd. that the max. of amino derivs. is weak and medium intensity; it is very strong in isothiocyanates. 1-Aminoacridine caused a negligible shift of absorption max. to higher wavelengths, not only in the area of fundamental vibrations, but also in the area of deformation vibrations of the amino group.
