Vaporization of nonconductors from carbon electrodes during spectrographic analysis

E. Plško

Abstract: The conditions for the vaporization of 2 nonconductors from the crater of the C electrode can be graphically expressed by the application of the relation of the integral intensity J of spectral lines of the known sample on the unknown sample. For the theoretical part, Lomakin's (CA 24, 2080) and Scheibe's (S. and Schnettler, CA 25, 2070) equations were used. Several examples with graphs are given. A typical case of fractional distn. is the vaporization of MgO and Al2O3 in the ratio 1:1. MgO is vaporized first. The mixt. of Na2CO3 and K2CO3 in the ratio 1:1 vaporizes equally and gives a straight line graph. The mixt. of Al2O3 and SiO2 with kaolin and Li2CO3 also gives a straight line graph.
