Critical comparison of two photometric methods for determination of phosphorus

Abstract: Two methods for detn. of P based on molybdenum blue with N2H4 as a reducing agent were investigated. The 2 mehods were: Boltz and Mellon (CA 42, 57c) (A) and Hahn and Luckhaus (CA 50, 7650i) (B). In A, the procedure is almost independent of the age of the solns. and gives const. results up to 30 days. The amts. of orthophosphate in the tested solns. should result in absorbance values in the range 0.2-0.7, which corresponds approx. to 20-80 γ P/100 ml. In B, the results are less exact and vary after 14 days.
