The absorption of hydrofluoric acid in aqueous solutions

Abstract: The optimum conditions for the absorption of HF from the gaseous effluent during the electrolytic production of Al were studied. The compn. of the azeotropic mixt. HF + H2O at 25 ± 1° was detd. The value 36.60 ± 0.45 wt. % HF was detd. as av. of 20 measurements. The absorption of the gaseous HF at the concn. (1-3) × 102 mg. HF/m.3 air in 2% soln. of NaOH was studied. It was detd. that the optimum air flow is at 1.0-1.5 1./min. and the absorption of HF is practically 100%. The measurements were made in a polyethylene app.
