Thermal dilation of minerals in the system CaO-MgO-SiO2

Abstract: 2MgO.SiO2 (forsterite), CaO.MgO.SiO2 (monticellite), and 3CaO.MgO.-2SiO2 (merwinite), were prepd. The values for the middle coeff. of the thermal dilatation were measured, the values for the right coeff. of the thermal dilatation were graphically detd., and the per cent linear dilatation in the temp. range 20-1000° was calcd. They are: for 2MgO.SiO2, α20-1000° = 12.2 × 10-6 deg-1, for CaO.MgO.SiO2, α20-1000° = 11.4 × 10-6-deg-1, and for 3CaO.MgO.2SiO2, α20-1000° = 12.7 × 10-6 deg-1.
