New complexanes. VIII. Ethylenediamino-N,N' -disuccinic acid and investigation of its heavy metal complexes by spectrophotometry

Abstract:   The synthesis of ethylenediamino-N,N' -disuccinic acid (I) and the formation of new complexes with heavy metals and their spectrophotometric detn. were described. The relation of the complexes to pH, absorption spectra curves, the compn., and stability consts. are given. I was prepd. by the condensation of ethylenedibromide with aspartic acid in an alk. medium. I became brown at 210°. The compn. of complexes of Cu2+, Co2+, Co3+, Ni2+, and Fe3+ with I was detd. by the molar ratio method and in the case of Zn2+, Pb2+, and Cd2+ complexes with the method in the uv region (220 m.oeligat.). In all cases the ratio of I to heavy metal was 1:1. The stability consts. (log K) are: Fe3+ 22.0, Cu2+ 18.45, Ni2+ 18.02, Co2+ 14.02, Zn2+ 12.9, Pb2+ 12.3, and Cd2+ 11.5. Compared to EDTA, these values are lower except for Cu2+ which is practically the same.
