Copper(II) complex compounds with organic ligands. III. Reactions of bis(salicylato)diaquocopper(II) complexes with certain nitrogen-containing compounds and aromatic amines

Abstract:   A simple method for the prepn. of complex compds. of the type of [Cu[o-C6H4(OH)CO2]2(NL)2] (I) (NL = monofunctional N ligand) was described. It is based on the substitution of the mol. of H2O in the bis(salicylato)diaquocopper(II) (II) complex with the mols. of the corresponding NL of the pyridine and aniline type in EtOH solns. At room temp. 5 g. of the dihydrate of II (1.22 × 10-2M) in 40-50 ml. 96% EtOH is mixed with the soln. of 4.88 × 10-2M or 7.32.10-2M of the corresponding NL in 20 ml. 96% EtOH. Cryst. products are formed immediately or few mins. after; 18 I complexes with the following NL compds. were isolated: α-, β-, and γ-picoline, 2,6-lutidine, 3-acetylpyridine, 4-acetylpyridine, quinoline, 2-methylquinoline, 6-methylquinoline and isoquinoline, aniline, o-, m-, and p-toluidine, 2-chloroaniline, 4-chloroaniline, 1-naphthylamine, and 2-naphthylamine.
