Abstract: Minuite amounts of Cl, S, Se, and Te compds. in the active layer of the catalyst improve its selectivity and prevent total oxidn. of C2H4. The influence of 1,2-dichloroethane vapors (I) on the activity of an Ag catalyst during direct oxidn. of C2H4 to ethylene oxide is investigated. In the tested range of 0.006, 0.02, 0.05, 0.2, and 0.5 ppm. I, the highest activity is reached with 0.05 ppm. The selectivity increases to 0.5 ppm. In concns. above 1 ppm., I will poison the catalyst. The optimum value for I is in the range of 0.1-0.2 ppm. which increases selectivity from 50% to 60-65%; conversion decreases from 35% to 30%.
