Interpolymer efficiency of cross-linking of the atactic polypropylene-polyethylene-dicumyl peroxide blend

Abstract:  Based upon the equation describing the relation of the interpolymer efficiency of cross-linking of the blend (denned as the number of cross-links among the macromolecules of the atactic polypropylene and polyethylene for one mole of decomposed dicumyl peroxide) to the composition of the mixture: atactic polypropylene—polyethylene—dicumyl peroxide, the ratio of the rate constants of the transfer to polypropylene and polyethylene was determined and compared with the value of the ratio established from the total efficiency of the cross-linking of the blend. I t was found out, that cumyloxy-radical reacts with the basic unit of polypropylene 3.8 times faster than with that of polyethylene.
