Benzimidazoles. III. The synthesis and infrared spectra of 1 - aryl - 2 - methyl -5 sybstituted benzimidazoles

Abstract: The synthesis of 1-(4-X-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-nitro and 1-(4-X-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-aminobenzimidazoles, where X = CH₃ , Br, I, OCH₃, ОС₂Н₆, SC₂H₅, N(C₂H₆)₂ is described in the presented paper. Besides the compounds mentioned, 1-benzyl-2-methyl-5-aminobenzimidazole was newly synthetised. The infra-red spectra of the series 1-(4-X-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-nitrobenzimidazoles in the region of 1800—1200 cm^-1 , 1-(4-X-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-aminobenzimidazoles in the region of 3500—1200 cm^-1 , where X = k , CH₃ , CI, Br, I, OCH_3, OC₂H₅, SC₂H₅, N(C₂H₅)₂ and 1-benzylderivatives are interpreted.
