Modifications of dithiocyanatodiammine copper(II) complex. I. Effect of concentration and of temperature of the formation of modifications of dithiocyanatodiammine copper(II)

Abstract: The formation of β- and α-modifications of Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 from aq. solns. at different ratios of [NH3]:[Cu(II)] and temps. was studied by the x-ray diffraction. At 20° and low NH3 ratios, [NH3]:[Cu(II)] = 7:1, the β-modification and at high NH3 ratios, [NH3]:[Cu(II)] = 25:1, the α-modification is formed. At higher temps., 30° and 40°, and at high NH3 ratios, [NH3]:Cu(II) = 3.5-47:1, only the β-modification is formed. These results agree with the theoretical data reported by Bersuker (1962).
