Indirect bromination of iron pentacarbonyl by bromographite and examination of the product of thermal decomposition

Abstract: Fe(CO)4Br2 was prepared by indirect bromination of iron pentacarbonyl by bromographite. By the examination of the course of its thermal decomposition on derivatographe it was found out that the decomposition process is endothermic and that the CO groups are not equivalent. The first decomposition step reveals the endothermic maximum at 55 °C, the second one at 85 °C and the third one at 100 °C. All four CO groupsof the investigated substance were split off up to 100 °C
