Abstract: Hydrogenation of several dichlorobutenes and 2,3,4-trichloro-l-butene was investigated. The most effective catalyst from the group of light and heavy platinum metals was found to be rhodium black adsorbed on alumina. This catalyst had the most selective effect on the hydrogenation of chlorinated alkenes. The hydrogenation proceeded with all the compounds under study, whereby also reductive dehalogenation took place and, consequently, the amount and the composition of hydrogenation products depended on the structure of alkene used.
