Abstract: The mathematical model of longitudinal mixing in continuous phase in an RD-extractor based on the diffusion model has been modified with respect to the conditions characterizing the flow and properties of dispersed phase. The constants in the resulting relation derived which make possible to calculate the coefficient of longitudinal mixing in this phase εd for the design of extractors have been determined experimentally by measurements in a laboratory extrac- tion column with the system water—acetone—toluene. The values of Ped found from the concentration profiles in this apparatus are compared with the values calculated according to some recommended correlations. The possibility of indirectly determining the coefficient of longitudinal mixing in continuous phase Pec by the use of nonstationary analysis in two-phase flow is discussed.
