Thermodynamics of phase equilibriums in systems with polymorphic transitions. I. Systems forming no compounds and no solid solutions

Abstract: A systematic anal. of phase equil. in binary systems forming neither compds. nor solid solns. and in which one component forms polymorphic overeutectic modifications of the enantiotropic type is presented. A procedure is proposed for the detn. of quantities which cannot be measured at equil. conditions: e.g. temps. of fusion of the polymorphic modifications; temps. of transition points; activities of the given component in hypothetical solns. having compn. and temp. corresponding to the hypothetical transition points; and the ratio of slopes of tangents to the curves of monovariant equil. at the hypothetical transition points. The exptl. data obtained for real transition points are sufficient for total description of phase equil. in regions which are not accessible to measurements.
