Sorption of metal-ions on the chelate-forming cellulose ion-exchangers

Abstract: The capacities of chelateforming ion exchangers on the basis of cellulose OSTSORB OXIN, OSTSORB DETA, and OSTSORB DTTA have been determined for Fe(III), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Mn(II), Mg(II), and Ca(II) in dependence on the pH value of the aqueous phase. Of the studied ion exchangers OSTSORB DTTA exhibits rather high, OSTSORB OXIN medium capacity values, and OSTSORB DETA binds practically only Cu(II) in the investigated pH range. The capacity values for the studied ions graded in dependence on pH are connected with the stability of the forming chelates. The results were used for elaborating of several procedures for the separation of heavy metal ions from the solutions of simple inorganic and organic pharmaceutical preparations.
