Stobadine - a novel scavenger of free radicals

Abstract: A new antiarrhythmic, antihypoxic drug — stobadine tested on its antioxidative activity is an effective inhibitor of lipid peroxidation and a potent scavenger of 'OH radicals. A stable radical derived from stobadine with a well resolved ESR spectrum was obtained indicating the conversion of its amino group to the corresponding nitroxyl radical. The effective antioxidant and scavenger activity of stobadine is attributed to its amino group in position 5.
