Benzothiazole compounds. 38. Synthesis and spectral characteristics of 3,3'-dimethyl-2,2'-(polymethylenedithio)dibenzothiazolium salts

Abstract: 2,2'-(Methylenedithio)dibenzothiazole reacts with CH3I or (CH3)2S04 to afford 3,3'4limethyl-2,2Xniethylenedithio)dibenzothiazolium diiodide resp. di(methylsulfate). From 2,2'-(ethylenedithio)dibenzothiazole 2,3-dihydrothiazolo[2,3-6]benzothiazolium iodide is obtained and 2,2,-(trimethylenedithio)dibenzothiazole gives 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-thiazino[2,3-b]benzothiazolium iodide. The mechanism of the formation of these tricyclic compounds is reported. The structure of the compounds was confirmed using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV spectroscopy.
