Abstract: Influence of magnesium stearate on the kinetics of thermal dehydrochlorination of poly(vinyl chloride) is studied. The samples thermally stressed are analyzed by infrared spectroscopy and by viscosimetric determination of their relative molecular mass. A reaction scheme of the processes proceeding in the course of dehydrochlorination is suggested and the rate constants of individual kinetic steps are determined by comparing the experimental and theoretical kinetic curves. On the basis of the results obtained the mechanism of the stabilizing effect of magnesium stearate is discussed.
