Application of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods to optimize sulfuric acid derivatives

Abstract:

Sulfuric acid, a critical compound in industrial chemistry, is valued for its strong acidity, oxidizing properties, and dehydrating ability. This study investigates its chemical behavior, environmental impact, and industrial relevance, with a focus on its applications in drug design and other industrial sectors. The research integrates chemical graph theory and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches to evaluate the pharmacological potential of sulfuric acid derivatives. A set of nine topological indices is computed for fourteen sulfuric acid based pharmaceutical compounds, and their physicochemical properties are analyzed. To prioritize and rank these compounds, MCDM methods such as ENTROPY, VIKOR, and MABAC are applied. The ENTROPY method provides objective weightings, while VIKOR and MABAC offer comparative rankings, facilitating robust, data-driven decision-making in selecting optimal candidates for further use. The results have practical implications for various industries, including wastewater treatment, fertilizer production, petroleum refining, and pharmaceutical applications, where sulfuric acid derivatives play a key role. The study emphasizes the need for sustainable practices and decision frameworks in chemical and pharmaceutical industries, offering new insights into optimizing sulfuric acid derivatives for these applications.
