Abstract:

In this study, an all-solid-state polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane cetirizine-selective potentiometric sensor was developed using molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The potentiometric performance of the MIP-based sensor was systematically evaluated. The sensor exhibited a Nernstian slope of 59.0 ± 0.6 m V decade−1 (R2 = 0.9997), a low detection limit of 4.37 × 10−7 mol L−1, a short response time (≤ 10 s), and an operational lifetime of approximately seven weeks. A linear response was observed over the concentration range of 1.0 × 10−6 to 1.0 × 10−2 mol L−1 and optimum performance was achieved with in the pH range of 4.0–8.0. The proposed sensor was successfully applied for the determination of cetirizine in pharmaceutical formulations. The results were statistically validated and showed good agreement with the results obtained by UV–Vis spectrophotometry at a 95% confidence interval.
