Thermal conductivity of foamed polystyrene in a region of the second order transition point

Abstract: The coeff. of the thermal conductivity λ of 2 types of foamed polystyrene, one (I) with the d. 17.7 kg./m.3, the other (II) with the d. 22.6 kg./m.3 was measured in relation to the mean temp. In the temp. range 5-40°, by the method of the stationary thermal pole, at the mean temps. 5-25°, this equation was detd.: λ-1 = a + btm - ctm2. The consts., dependent on the d. of the material, are for I, a = 11.002, b = 1.983, c = 0.0688, and for II, a = 14.573, b = 1.457, c = 0.0524. There is a linear relation at the mean temps. 25-40°. The equation is: λ = λ0 - αtm. The consts. are dependent on the d. and are for I, λ0 = 0.0877, α = 0.00115, and for II, λ0 = 0.0942, α = 0.013. There is a reversion (transition) point of the second order.
