Abstract:

Self-aggregation behaviour of porphyrin molecules has been studied to provide nanostructures of definite morphology and shape by introducing the newer hydrogen bonding sites at peripheral position of the porphyrin molecule. For this, we have synthesized new metal-free porphyrin bearing triazine functional moiety in several steps. This porphyrin has been further utilized for the preparation of nanostructures with the help of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant in chloroform solvent. The morphology, size and photophysical properties of these nanostructures have been studied with the help of scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), UV–Visible, fluorescence and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. SEM and TEM images of these nanostructures result in well-defined cube-shaped nanostructures. Further, the role of hydrogen bonding in controlling the aggregation of triazine bearing porphyrin molecules has been investigated through UV–Visible and IR spectroscopy.
