Abstract: Fifteen new polyisothiocyanates were prepd.: those of the aliph. type were obtained by the reaction of cellulose with 5-isothiocyanato-1-pentylisocyanate or by the reaction of aminoethyl cellulose with thiophosgene. The reactions of arylene di- and triisothiocyanates, resp., with aminoethyl cellulose or the reaction of N-4-(4'-aminodiphenyl)amide of carboxymethyl cellulose with 1,4-phenylenediisothiocyanate gave the arom. polyisothiocyanates. Treatment of aminoethyl cellulose with aralkyl diisothiocyanates yielded polyisothiocyanates of a mixed type. The prepd. derivs. had the same phys. and hydrodynamic properties as the original celluloses. The suitability of the prepd. substances for immobilization of enzymes or a reversible binding of low-mol.-wt. SH compds. for their isolation from dil. aq. solns. is discussed.
